Will Bonness

Will Bonness has been an active member of the Winnipeg, Canadian and international jazz scenes since his teen years. At age 17, Will joined Maynard Ferguson’s Big Bop Nouveau Band for a year-long world tour which included performances at many famous venues. After leaving the band, Will pursued further music studies at the University of Manitoba as well as in New York and Boston with several renowned teachers, and he maintains a busy international and local performance schedule.

Performance Highlights Will has appeared in concert with many renowned artists including Terreon Gully, Jimmy Greene, and Miguel Zenon. He has performed abroad with Regina Carter and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, with Avishai Cohen (trumpet) and Lionel Loueke in New York City, and at jazz festivals throughout Canada. He continues to perform regularly throughout Manitoba with the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra. Will has performed at many famous venues including the Blue Note, Smalls Jazz Club, Blues Alley in Washington, D.C., and the Yardbird Suite in Edmonton.
   
Ongoing Research & Creative Activity Will has appeared on nearly 20 recordings including Steve Kirby’s Stepchild (2008), Curtis Nowosad’s Dialectics, Larry Roy and Erin Propp’s Courage, My Love, and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra’s The Hours, Symphony No. 3.

His ongoing activities include performances with Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra.

   
Awards and Recognition
Will's album Subtle Fire was nominated for Jazz Album of the Year at the Western Canada Music Awards (2010). He has appeared on several JUNO-nominated recordings.
