Ensemble - eXperimental Improv Ensemble (XIE)

The eXperimental Improv Ensemble is an interdisciplinary performance group.

Activities of the ensemble vary widely, ranging from live soundtrack performance to the mounting of media art installations. The XIE is dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration with partners both on and off campus. Recent academic collaborations include projects with Architecture, Computer Science, Sculpture, and Electrical Engineering.

Past performances include pre-concert events at the Winnipeg New Music Festival, a performance with dance collaboration with the UM Department of Religion, collaboration with Brandon University's New Music Ensemble, an evening of live soundtracks at Cinémathèque (presented by GroundSwell), an outdoor sound installation for the Museum of Clear Ideas, and Taste for Justice—a “sonic cuisine” fund-raiser sponsored by Amnesty International, as well as "Jamming the Dragon" (an open stage for improvised experimental music which took place in the Winnipeg Exchange District.)
