Congratulations on deciding to start your University career at the University of Manitoba. You've made a great choice!
The goal of this tutorial is to learn how to register for courses using the University's online Aurora Student Registration system.
Directions: To view the tutorial, use the links below to move up and down to the next section.
Aurora Student timetabling and registration
This tutorial will take you through the following functions in Aurora Student:
Click on the Current Students tab on the U of M home page. Then click on Aurora Student under Online Services. This will take you to the Aurora Student home page.
Click on "Enter Secure Area" to bring up the Login page. You will be asked to login with your student number and your PIN.
Enter your 7-digit student number, which is located on your Letter of Acceptance.
For your first login, your 6 digit PIN has been automatically set as your birthday, and is to be entered in the order YEAR, MONTH, DAY (YYMMDD). So, if your birthday is April 24, 1992 you would enter 920424.
Once you have successfully logged into Aurora you will be prompted to change your PIN to something else other than your birthday for security reasons.
When you have entered your information click on Login.
You will then need to answer 2 security questions. If you forget your PIN, you will be able to click on "FORGOT PIN" on the login page and get your security questions.
It is very important to keep both your PIN and your security questions private. If other people know your student number and PIN, or your security questions, they will have access to your university records, including your address, what courses you are registered in, and your final grades, among other things.
Once you have agreed to the "Terms of Usage" you will see your personal Main Menu. It will say "Welcome" and your name.
We will be reviewing the information in the "Personal Information" and "Enrolment and Academic Records" menus. First, let’s look at the "Personal Information" menu.
Aurora Personal Menu
Options available to you on the "Personal Information" menu include:
From here we will go back to the "Enrolment & Academic Records" menu on the Main Menu and show you how to determine your initial registration time.
Aurora Enrolment & Academic Menu
The "Enrolment & Academic Records" menu has a number of options.
The first thing you will need to do before you can access registration is to declare your consent for the University of Manitoba to begin submitting information to the provincial and federal governments regarding eligibility for tuition tax credit (T2202A consent). To begin, click on DECLARATIONS.
Once you have clicked on Declarations, you will need to click on Declare Consent for Release of T2202A Tax Receipt Information. A registration hold will remain on your account until this step has been completed.
Read the information carefully and either consent or decline for your information to be sent to Manitoba Finance and The Canada Revenue Agency in support of the tuition tax credit.
If you choose to decline, your T2202A receipt information will not be forwarded to Manitoba Finance and The Canada Revenue Agency. If you consent, the information will be used to verify your eligibility for the Manitoba Tuition Fee Income Tax Rebate Program and for Income Tax purposes.
The "Registration" menu includes a number of options that you will be utilizing to complete the registration process.
Beginning July 4th, 2011 you can find out the exact date and time of when you can first access course registration. You can do this by clicking on Registration Time & Status. Initial registration for new Music students admitted for the 2011/2012 Regular Session begins the week of July 11th.

A close up of a registration error:
Common Registration Errors
There are many reasons why you may not be able to register for a course. Here is a list of some common registration errors you may come across:
- link error (lab/lecture error)
- pre-requisite & test score error
- timetable conflict
- campus restriction
- college restriction
- closed section (class is full)
- major restriction
- time conflict
- term span error
The Faculty of Music can help you out if you encounter one of these registration add errors. Please make sure to write down exactly what the error is (and with what course & section) before calling Susan (474-9133) or Shelly (474-6728) for assistance.
If you want to drop any of these courses, Click on Add or Drop classes under the Registration menu. By clicking on the drop down menu under ACTION, you will see an option to Web Drop (during the revision period) and Voluntary Withdrawal Web (after the revision period).
Once you are happy with your schedule, you can get an idea of what your week looks like by clicking on “Week at a Glance” back on the Registration Menu screen. Other things to look at on the Registration Menu screen are: course detail schedule and fee assessment.
Official fee assessments will only be available on Aurora at the beginning of August (fee statements are not mailed out to students). Here is an example of the fee assessment screen.
Please notice the UMSU Health and Dental fees. All U of M students are automatically enrolled in a Health & Dental care plan (some exceptions apply). If you currently have coverage under other plans (a parent’s or a spouse’s), you can opt out of the UMSU Health & Dental plan and those fees will be reimbursed to you after you pay your tuition. The deadline to opt-out of the UMSU health plan is September 21.
How do you pay your fees?
Now that you know how much you owe in tuition fees, how do you pay them? You can pay using several different methods:
You cannot pay for tuition with a credit card.Cash or Cheque Interac/Debit On-line banking with your bank
When do you have to pay your fees by?
Fall Term 2011 - fees due by September 7th, 2011 (4:30 pm)
Winter Term 2012 - fees are due by January 5th, 2012 (4:30 pm)
Make sure to pay your tuition fees by the fee deadlines listed above. It is important to pay on time to avoid late fees or holds to your student account.
Failure to pay tuition fees will not de-register you from your courses. If you do not drop your courses, you will still be responsible for all fees and will receive a final grade in all courses you are registered for.
Please see the Cashier's Office website for more information regarding fee payment.
