Nuclear Medicine Residency Program – University of Manitoba

 

Welcome to the University of Manitoba Nuclear Medicine Residency Program Website.

 

The U of Manitoba offers a 7 year dual certification program in  Radiology and Nuclear medicine.  Entry to the program is through the CaRMS match.  A position is available every 2 years.  Details of the application process can be obtained on the CaRMS website.

 

The dual training program consists of

 

            PGY1                         Basic Clinical Training year

 

            PGY2 – PGY5           Radiology residency program

 

            PGY6 – PGY7           Nuclear Medicine residency program

 

The U of M Nuclear medicine program also offers a 2 year post Radiology residency program for residents completing their Radiology training programs

 

Residents interested in the 2 year post Radiology training program can apply directly to the program director .

The University of Manitoba Nuclear Medicine program no longer offers a straight Nuclear medicine training program. This step was taken in order to better prepare our residents for the rapidly expanding field of hybrid imaging which requires expertise in both Nuclear Medicine and Radiology.  It also better equips our residents for future career opportunities.

 

 

Highlights of the Nuclear medicine training program at U of Manitoba include:

 

ü     High faculty to resident ratio

ü     Dedicated 2 year didactic lecture series covering all basic and clinical subject areas

ü     Fully funded clinical PET program

ü     On site cyclotron facility allowing a wide range of research opportunities

ü     Centralized radiopharmacy and radiopharmacist

ü     Involvement in unique provincial Bone densitometry program

ü     Support for a conference or course annually.  Additional funding for research presentations or workshops also available.

ü     Research opportunities in clinical and basic sciences.

ü     Close interaction with Endocrinology and Cardiology.

           

 

All aspects of training can be fulfilled at the U of Manitoba.  There are no mandatory out of province rotations, although elective time in other centers may be arranged and is encouraged.
