The Child Development Clinic operates at Children’s Hospital, Winnipeg as part of the Department of Paediatrics & Child Health. The clinic offers assessment and early intervention services for preschool and some school age children with developmental problems. A variety of clinics are offered including: “High Risk Newborn Follow Up Clinic, Child Protection Centre Developmental Clinic (CPCD), Building Blocks for Attachment Clinic, Clinic for Acohol & Drug Exposed Children (CADEC) and Developmental & Social Skills Clinic (for children with suspected Autism Spectrum Disorder). Single discipline or multiple discipline assessments are offered as needed after review by a mutlidisciplinary Intake Committee.
The Child Development Clinic conducts Outreach Clinics at several locations in Manitoba, including Brandon, Dauphin, Swan River, Morden and the Pas/Flin Flon. Behaviour Outreach Program is offered with home or day care based assistance for families of children with behavioural problems. Social work parent counselling is available.
Close ties are present with the Department of Clinical Health Psychology and other departments at Children’s Hospital, particularly Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy, Communication Disorders and the Child Protection Centre. Links are present with the Rehabilitation Centre For Children with some joint clinics offered, eg Spina Bifida Clinic and Feeding Clinic at the Rehabilitation Centre For Children. Close partnership is also present with the Section of Ambulatory Paediatrics with joint services at the Paediatric Adolescent Satellite Clinic. Consultation clinics occur in partnership with the Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and the Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre.
