The Manitoba Locum Tenens Program is a joint initiative of the Government of Manitoba and the University of Manitoba.
The Program offers rural physicians relief time for vacation or Continuing Medical Education by providing an approved physician.
Coverage is provided in communities of four physicians or less, with locums assigned for a minimum
of five days to a maximum of 28 days. The exact timing depends on locum availability.
MLTP is a designated site with the Insured Benefits Branch of Manitoba Health for billing purposes. A specific billing number
is assigned to MLTP to be used during locum placements and locums are paid a daily stipend by the MLTP. The program reimburses
overhead expenses to resident physicians/facilities.
Furnished accommodation is the responsibility of the physicians/facility. If local accommodation cannot be arranged the accommodation
costs will be charged to the physicians/facility.
