Applying from outside Manitoba
Prerequisites

In addition to having an undergraduate degree from a university recognized by the University of Manitoba, and a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (B) in the last 60 credit hours of study, applicants must have the equivalent prerequisites courses with a minimum grade of “C” in each.

The prerequisite courses are: Introduction to Psychology (6 credits), Introduction to Sociology (6 credits), Statistics (3 credits), Anatomy (3 credits), Physiology (3 to 6 credits depending on course), and Child Development (3 credits). Developmental Psychology Adolescence to Old Age has been waived as an admission prerequisite for students applying in 2011.

We receive applications from as far west as the University of Victoria in British Columbia to Memorial University in Newfoundland in the east. It is therefore not possible to list the prerequisites for all Universities.

Some notes about prerequisite requirements:

  • Research methods courses from departments other than statistics may be appropriate in lieu of Introductory Statistics (e.g. research methods in psychology)
  • Students with 3 credits in Introductory Psychology can have the other 3 credit hours waived if they have taken an additional 3 credits in psychology.
  • Students with 3 credits in Introductory Sociology can have the other 3 credit hours waived if they have taken an additional 3 credits in sociology or cultural anthropology.
  • Students may be able to use courses other than sociology provided the content focuses on societies (i.e. cultural anthropology).
