Dr. Avery graduated with BSc (Hons), Major in Anatomy and Cell Science, McGill University. She attained her Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Manitoba, as well as Postgraduate Training in the Specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Fellow International Health. Dr. Avery completed her Masters of International Health with a focus on Sexual and Reproductive Health (including maternal and neonatal health) and HIV/AIDS Policy, Planning and Implementation at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark). Dr. Avery is interested in inequities in health care access and outcomes, determinants of health and their impact on sexual and reproductive health of low and middle income societies, with particular interest in research projects and knowledge translation in the areas of global public health with emphasis on women’s health. Her passion and knowledge in international public health will be a great asset to the Centre on Global Public Health. She is a past recipient of the J.A. Hildes Award.
