Going for the Gold: Celebrating 20 Years of Experience in Population -Based Research in Manitoba and Beyond
In March 2010, the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy celebrated its 20th Anniversary with an international conference in Winnipeg. The conference was a celebration of challenges, successes, past, and future, with a wide range of topics presented and discussed over two days. As a way to capture the share the knowledge with those who were not able to make it to the confernce MCHP produced a special edition supplement in the journal, Healthcare Policy.

The Need to Know Team Profiled in CIHR's 2009/10 Annual Report
In 2001, researchers from MCHP began a collaboration with policy planners and decision makers from all 11 regional health authorities in Manitoba and representatives from the Manitoba Government. The project, called The Need to Know Team, focused on putting information to work by reaching out to the people who can do just that. Initially funded through a CIHR Community Alliances for Health Research award, The Team began incorporating decision makers into the research process, strengthening health services and improving population health by broadening the understanding of how research is done and combining it with realities facing the healthcare system throughout Manitoba.
THE STORY OF THE MANITOBA CENTRE FOR HEALTH POLICY
MCHP is rich with stories that punctuate its history. A qualitative study exploring the details of MCHP was written by Dr. Gail Marchessault to celebrate the founding of the Centre and the 20 years of research it has produced. This study explores the challenges and success of MCHP and includes insights from key people at Manitoba Health and the University of Manitoba, including the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Community Health Sciences.
