Manitoba NEAHR Program

The Manitoba Network Environment for Aboriginal Health Research (NEAHR) Program seeks to expand the pool of indigenous health researchers and contribute to the development of a sustainable and collaborative research environment for First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities in Manitoba.

Health Research Awards

Graduate Research Fellowship
The Manitoba NEAHR Graduate Fellowship is an award up to a maximum of $20,000 for one year to support graduate studies at the Masters or PhD level in indigenous health.  In addition to providing financial support, the NEAHR Program helps students to link with othe graduate students and established researchers in the province and across Canada.

Student Research Internships
The summer research internship is a 15 week program that offers undergraduate students the opportunity to gain hands-on research experience.  See guidelines and application for further information.

New Investigator Award
This award is intended to provide support for new indigenous faculty to develop and demonstrate their independence in initiating and conducting First Nations/Metis/Inuit health research through the provision of a contribution to their salary and/or a research start up grant.  This award provides salary support up to $50,000 per year for one year (with possible renewal for a second year) and a one time research start up grant of up to $25,000.  Investigators are expected to spend at least 75% of their university-based time on research and to apply for peer reviewed research funding during the term of the award.  See guidelines and application for additional information.

Awards Selection Process:  All of the awards under the Manitoba NEAHR program are selected on a competitive basis.  An Awards Review Committe consisting of faculty members and representatives from the Manitoba First Nations and Metis communities review applications at all levels.  Criteria for selection will include academic record, interest and/or experience in First Nations/Metis/Inuit health issues, and evidence of community commitment.
