his appointment as the WRHA Vice-President responsible for the Cardiac

Collette DeSchutter,
Equipment Coordinator, Cardiac Sciences Program, on her retirement.
Bruce Morin,
hired as the new Equipment Coordinator, Cardiac Sciences Program.
Dr. Randy Fransoo,
Research Scientist, Manitoba Centre for Health Policy (MCHP), on being
awarded a Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) grant. This grant will
expand access to the Data Repository at MCHP and support the addition
of several new databases for research use, including data from the WRHA
Cardiac Sciences Program.
The Cardiac Sciences
Program Congestive Heart Failure Clinic Team
received the Certificate Excellence for Top Centre Enrolment (National
Database) from teh Canadian Heart Failure Network. This award was presented
to Dr. Shelley Zieroth, Director, SBGH Heart Failure and Transplant
Clinics and Head, Medical Heart Failure Program and Estrelita Estrella
Holder, Clinical Nurse Specialist, at the September 2009 Heart Failure
Society of America meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. There are currently
33 Heart Failure Clinics in Canada participating in the Canadian Heart
Failure Network. The database is used to provide clinical care and to
support local / national research endeavours.
Cardiovascular
Health Research in Manitoba (CHaRM)
has its first publication, entitled "Impact of 24-Hour, In-House
Intensivists on a Dedicated Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit"
in the Annals of Thoracic Surgery. This research was co-authored by
Dr. Kenny Kumar, Dr. Ryan Zarychanski, Dr. Dean Bell, Dr. Rizwan Manji,
Dr. Joel Zivot, Dr. Alan Menkis and Dr. Rakesh Arora on behalf of the
CHaRM group.
