	Congratulations to the Health Sciences Centre Cardiac Special Procedures: The HSC StAR Team for March, 2006!

	The HSC Staff Appreciation and Recognition (StAR) Committee is a group of staff volunteers representing a wide cross section of Health Sciences Centre departments and areas. It is mandated by Executive Team to find innovative and effective ways to recognize and appreciate all HSC staff members. Each month, a department or team is recognized for their contribution to meeting the HSC values of quality, respect, integrity, compassion, public accountability and responsible fiscal management.

	We are the Cardiac Special Procedures team and are located in GH159. We provide angiograms for diagnostic and intervention purposes. We also implant pacers, defibrillators and insert central lines. There are 23 staff in our department as well as a manager and 12 doctors who rotate throughout the department, ensuring that there are three doctors in the department everyday. This is a very fast pace critical care special procedure area. Our nurses (Pacer and Cath Lab nurses), along with the support team consisting of a UA, radiologist and clerk/supplies clerk, deal with diagnostic intervention and treatment of many cardiac illnesses. As highly trained critical care nurses with ICU training, our nursing staff is ready for any cardiac emergency situation that arrives on our doorstep. Our nurses are always updating their skills to provide the best care for all our patients. As a team, we operate in a highly efficient procedure area dealing with critical patients. No matter how long the day is or how many patients come through this area, staff always maintain their professional attitude, compassion and respect for patients and family members. We also have a very supportive manager who is always available for support and encouragement. Thank you for considering our team for a StAR Team. They are truly amazing people to work with!
