The
Cardiac Sciences Program integrates Cardiac Surgery, Cardiology, Cardiac
Anesthesiology and Critical Care resources under one leadership to more
safely coordinate and deliver cardiac services to the people of Manitoba.
In addition, the Cardiac Sciences Program supports the development of research into the prevention, care and treatment of heart problems by linking with the basic and clinical research currently underway in our research centres. |

The consolidation of the majority of these services has required major renovations to inpatient units at St. Boniface General Hospital and the construction of two floors to the Y block of the hospital, facing Taché Avenue. The $20.5 million Bergen Cardiac Care Centre is a state-of-the-art facility that provides patients with direct access to tertiary cardiology care with specialized operations and diagnostics. There are 2 cardiac angiography rooms, 1 pacemaker and cardiac defibrillator room, 1 room for specialized procedures in electrophysiology, 17 post-procedure recovery beds, cardiology clinics, echocardiography and specialty echo rooms, and office space for cardiologists and administration. The Centre was completed in the fall of 2006. A second capital project, which will see the completion of the program needs, is at the functional programming stage and will address infrastructure needs to consolidate cardiac surgery at St. Boniface within the next 2 years. Our goal is to provide the highest quality heart care and to work with each patient to ensure they make the best health choices post-treatment. WRHA
