The initial effort resulted in the collection and shipment of over 1700 medical textbooks with an estimated value of over $250,000. The tremendous success of the project garnered national media coverage, and then expanded to include a core medical book library for Al-Beeruny University led by Shira Taylor at the University of Toronto, who coined the name “Books with Wings”.
