Neurosurgery

Goals and Objectives:
The students should learn to:

  1. Take a detailed history and physical examination in which is included a comprehensive neurological examination; arrive at a diagnosis; and suggest appropriate investigation and treatment.
  2. To clearly recognize situations characteristic of neurosurgical emergencies, and the response to them.
  3. To understand the usual presentation, indicated diagnostic procedures, methods of treatment, and usual outcome of common neurosurgical conditions.

Content:

  1. Daily ward rounds with residents and staffman.
  2. Attendance in the Operating Room for periods of observation and in selected cases, to assist at operations.
  3. Attendance at "Academic Day" each week. The academic day includes rounds in Neurosurgery, neurology, neuroradiology and neuropathology and lectures in specified basic neuroscience subjects.

Call Responsibility: Maximum call of 1 in 4.

Availability: All periods throughout the year.
