Neurosurgery
Goals and Objectives:
The students should learn to:
- Take a detailed history and physical examination in which is included a comprehensive neurological examination; arrive at a diagnosis; and suggest appropriate investigation and treatment.
- To clearly recognize situations characteristic of neurosurgical emergencies, and the response to them.
- To understand the usual presentation, indicated diagnostic procedures, methods of treatment, and usual outcome of common neurosurgical conditions.
Content:
- Daily ward rounds with residents and staffman.
- Attendance in the Operating Room for periods of observation and in selected cases, to assist at operations.
- Attendance at "Academic Day" each week. The academic day includes rounds in Neurosurgery, neurology, neuroradiology and neuropathology and lectures in specified basic neuroscience subjects.
Call Responsibility: Maximum call of 1 in 4.
Availability: All periods throughout the year.
