Adult Orthopedic Surgery Elective

Goals:
This elective is mainly an outpatient experience where emphasis is placed on history taking, diagnosis and fracture management. The student should learn:

  1. Musculoskeletal assessment of injured/diseased patients (50%)
  2. Fracture treatment (plaster skills) (40%)
  3. Patient care on wards (minimal) (10%)

Content:

  1. Attendance at all weekly teaching rounds.
  2. Three to four OPD clinics per week.
  3. Time spent with orthopedic technician and residents on casting and suture techniques.

Availability: All periods throughout the year.
