Dr. Myles Margolis (MD/85) Dr. Neil Margolis (MD/60)
Celebrating Milestones in Medicine
After more than 50 years, Dr. Neil Margolis’ love for pediatric care is just as strong as the first day he entered into practice.
“I really enjoy what I do so much,” says Neil. “Every newborn I see is a delight. I am always awe struck and amazed by the journey of life that they go through.”
A graduate of the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Medicine in 1960, Neil says he can’t imagine choosing a career path more inspiring or more fulfilling than the one he has embarked on.
“I have had an extremely rewarding career,” reflects Neil. Still practicing fulltime, this father of three says he keeps working not because he needs to, but rather because he finds it uplifting to see the kids he treated over the years grow up and have kids of their own – some even grandchildren.
It was Neil’s passion for medicine and the practice of caring for individuals that struck a chord with son Myles who, like his father, also chose a path in medicine -- a career he describes as both challenging and gratifying. “My father has been a great role model for me.”
“I really enjoy the diagnostic problem solving aspects of my technology-based specialty. I find my job to be very rewarding,” says Myles, a Radiologist at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto.
Both father and son celebrated milestone reunions at the Faculty of Medicine’s Homecoming this past September – 25 years for Myles and 50 years for Neil. Myles says attending the 2010 Homecoming events were especially significant given his father’s golden anniversary in medicine.
“It made the Homecoming experience that much more special being there with my father as he celebrated his 50th reunion,” said Myles.
Despite their life-long passion for the practice of medicine, father and son remain modest in their work, with Neil citing his career highlights as watching his son Myles follow in his footsteps graduating from medical school.
