Application Questions
 
  1. When does the application become available on-line? 

    The 2012- 2013 application will be posted on-line in August 2011. 

  2.  What is the deadline for submission of the application? 

    The deadline for submission of the 2012 - 2013 application is October 7, 2011.  Late applications will NOT be accepted.  We encourage all applicants to complete their applications as early as possible and not wait until the application deadline.  Early bird applications (submitted by September 23, 2011) will be $95.00.  Applications submitted after this date will be $125.00.

  3. What are the requirements for an application to be considered complete?

    The following pieces of information need to be submitted to Enrolment Services in order for your application to be considered complete: 

    • Application form
    • Supplemental Application form
    • Application fee
    • 2 copies of your transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended
    • proof of Aboriginal ancestry (if applicable)
    • release of your MCAT scores
    • evidence of language level competency in French (if applicable)
    • Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Resident of Canada documentation (if applicable)
    • English language proficiency (if applicable)

4.  What is the application fee for the 2012 - 2013 application?  

The Early bird application fee is $95.00 (i.e. submitted by September 23, 2011).  After this date, the application fee will be $125.00.  

5.  Who do I contact if I am having problems with my application?

    • The Admissions Office and Enrolment Services Office generally can not assist you with troubleshooting the application.

6.  Can I add more information to my application such as an Autobiographical essay? 

    • No.  Autobiographical essays are not a required part of the application unless you are a self-declared Aboriginal applicant and you have indicated you wish to be considered in the Aboriginal applicant pool. 
    • Aboriginal applicants being invited for interview will be contacted at a later date with the request to submit an essay. 
    • All other applicants should not submit a personal essay.

7.  Are reference letters part of my application?                                                                                                                                                                                           

  • Reference letters are not to be submitted with your application. 
  • You are required to fill out the "Referee Section" on the Supplementary Application Form. 
  • The Admissions Office will notify you when reference letters should be submitted by your referees (typically in December for applicants in the Manitoba pool and the Aboriginal pool and February for Out-of-Province applicants).

8.  How do I select my referees? 

  • You should select referees who can speak about your ability as a student, your work background and community experiences. 
  • It is very important to choose referees who know you well and can make comments reflective of your strengths and weaknesses. 
  • Choosing high profile referees who only have a casual or passing relationship with you will be of no benefit to your application. 
  • Your referees should ideally have had a supervisory or evaluative role with respect to you. 
  • Referees can not be family members including in-laws, spouses, etc.

9.  What proof is required for self-declared Aboriginal applicants who want to be considered in the Aboriginal pool? 

  • Applicants from all provinces and territories in Canada are encouraged to declare their First Nations, Metis or Inuit heritage. 
  • Applicants will be required to submit documentation to support this declaration.  One of the following will be accepted:  a certified copy of a Status or Treaty card; a certified copy of a Metis membership card; a certified copy of a Nunavut Trust Certificate card, roll number or any other proof accepted by Inuit communities.

10.  Where do I send my application? 

  • The Application, Supplemental Application, Application fee, transcripts, proof of Aboriginal ancestry, MCAT scores and French language competency documents are sent to:  Enrolment Services, 424 University Centre, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB  R3T 2N2

11.  Can my transcripts arrive before or after the deadline? 

  • Yes.  We will keep your transcripts on file and match them with your application. 
  • Transcripts must be received within three weeks of the final application deadline or your application will be considered ineligible for consideration.
