Speaker Biographies

 

Keynote Speaker: Paul Soubry Jr
President & CEO
New Flyer

In January 2009, Paul Soubry was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of New Flyer Industries Inc, the leading manufacturer of heavy-duty transit buses in the United States and Canada.

Paul started his career at StandardAero in 1985 and over 24 years held a variety of positions in Marketing, Sales and Operations including being named President in 2001, Chief Operating Officer in 2006 and CEO in 2007.

Paul has been involved in many industry and community organizations currently sits on the Board of Directors of: New Flyer Industries, Mondetta Clothing Company, The Smartpark Development Corporation, Economic Development Winnipeg and the Associates of the I.H .Asper School of Business. Paul has co-chaired the Mondetta Charity Classic Golf tournament for the past 17 years and is currently an honorary co-chair for the Canadian Cancer Society Gala Ball.

Paul holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) degree from the University of Manitoba, completed the Executive Program at Harvard School of Business and is currently enrolled in the Directors Education Program at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. He is a member of the UofM Associates and the Business Council of Manitoba. In 2003, Paul was named one of the recipients of ‘Canada’s Top 40 under 40’ award.

 

Special Guest Speaker: Sheila D. Molloy

Sheila D. Molloy, B.Comm (Honours) with distinction, Diploma in Communication, Professional Business Consultant and Entrepreneur.

Sheila is the Principal of Molloy & Associates, a Business, Sales and Lead Development firm. She is also founder of EventAlmanac.com, a web-based planning resource for event organizers.

Sheila has over 18 years of experience in marketing and operations management. She has worked in mid-to-senior level management roles for firms including Thomson Media, The North West Company, Vantage Media, NRG Research Group, HED Insurance and has contracted and consulted to a number of private companies.

From 2006 to 2010, Sheila served as the Executive Director of the Associates of the Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba: a dedicated foundation and elite network of leaders and senior–level executives who have supported the School in achieving world-class excellence in management education for over 28 years.

Sheila holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Degree with Distinction from the University of Manitoba and a Diploma in Creative Communications with a major in Advertising from Red River College in Winnipeg. She has authored two business cases for an International Marketing textbook currently in publication and is invited to speak to groups on communication and leadership.

In 2004, Sheila was inducted as a lifetime member to Beta Gamma Sigma the international business honour society. She has volunteered with the United Way since 1992, was a Retail Division Account Executive in 2001, and serves on the 2010 Campaign Cabinet as co-chair of the Community Leaders division.

She balances her life and dedicates her spare hours to a variety of past times including boxing, distance running, cross-country skiing, and hiking. Sheila together with her husband, Patrick, are known to be passionate about many things and have a formidable reputation with family and friends for their love of food, wine, adventure, and traveling the world in search of it all.

  

President & Senior Stick of the Commerce Students’ Association: Gabriela Rosales

Gabriela Rosales is a 4th year Asper student majoring in Marketing and International Business. Throughout her time at school she has been involved in many of the student groups and programs Asper has to offer. This includes successfully completing the Coop program, serving as 1st year representative for the Asper Students Cooperative Association (ASCA), a delegate in the 2009 Manitoba International Marketing Competition (MIMC), Promotions Co-Coordinator for the 2009/10 Commerce Students' Association (CSA), elected 2009/10 President of the University of Manitoba Marketing Association (UMMA), Director of Promotions for the 2010 MIMC, delegate in the 2010 JDC West Case Conference, and most recently elected the President of the Commerce Students' Association for the 2010-2011 school year.

The reason why Gabriela has gotten so involved in all of these student groups and programs is to enhance her education and make the best of her experience at Asper.  As President of CSA her ultimate goal is to inspire a sense of pride in Asper students. She wants to get the student body more involved in everything the school has to offer and to be proud of the school they attend.

 

Dean Glenn Feltham

Dean of the I.H. Asper School of Business: Dr. Glenn Feltham

Dr. Glenn Feltham assumed the role of Dean of the I.H. Asper School of Business and CA Manitoba Chair in Business Leadership, at the University of Manitoba from 2004 to 2011. Previously, Dr. Feltham was Professor in the College of Commerce at the University of Saskatchewan where he held the Chuck and Norma Childer’s Chair for Saskatchewan Enterprise – a chair endowed by Potash Corporation.

Dr. Feltham has undergraduate degrees in business and in economics, a master’s degree in business administration, a law degree from Queen’s University, and a doctoral degree in accounting, specializing in taxation, from the University of Waterloo. Dr. Feltham was formerly enrolled as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Law Society of Alberta, and is a Certified Management Accountant (Manitoba).

  

Emcee and Commerce Students’ Association Honourary President: David Angus
President and CEO
The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce

Dave Angus is committed to the Chamber movement. He volunteered as board chair and was later hired as the current president and CEO of The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce. He has served as president of the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada and represented local chambers on the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s Strategic Planning Committee. He currently sits on the board of directors of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives as the Canadian representative and The Chamber of Commerce Group Insurance Plan. Under his leadership, The Winnipeg Chamber has increased its membership to the highest level in its history (more than 2,060 corporate members) and has been recognized by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce as an Accredited Chamber with Distinction.
