Bachelor Of Commerce Business Luncheon 2012
It is my pleasure to congratulate you on your acceptance to the I.H. Asper School of Business and welcome you to our world-class institution. This is a tremendous milestone in your life and it is a time to celebrate.
Your academic year will begin on Tuesday, September 4th with the Bachelor of Commerce Business Luncheon at the Fairmont Hotel in downtown Winnipeg. At this event you will meet your classmates, professors and members of the Associates representing Winnipeg’s business community.
Your hosts at this event will be members of the Associates of the I.H. Asper School of Business, a group of over 250 senior business leaders from Manitoba and Canada who share the School’s commitment to excellence in business education. This event will introduce you to the mentors, employers, and role models, who will play a major role in your professional future.
This year, 2012, marks the Asper School’s 75th anniversary and the start of business education in Manitoba. Throughout our anniversary year we plan to celebrate our rich history, honour our school’s namesake Mr. Israel Asper, and celebrate our school’s rich history. We are pleased to announce that Gail Asper, daughter of Mr. Israel Asper, will be the luncheon’s keynote speaker. Gail Asper was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and obtained her B.A. and LL.B. from the University of Manitoba in 1981 and 1984 respectively. After receiving her call to the Bar of Nova Scotia in 1985, Gail practiced corporate and commercial law with Goldberg & Thompson in Halifax, Nova Scotia, before joining CanWest Global Communications Corp. in 1989, as Corporate Secretary and Legal Counsel. Ms. Asper is President of The Asper Foundation, a private charitable foundation that is the driving force behind the creation of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg. Ms. Asper was a member of the Board of Directors of Canwest Global Communications Corp. from 1991 to 2010 and from 1998 to 2008 was a member of the Board of Great-West Lifeco Inc. and its subsidiaries.

You will be contacted later this month with more “Buddy Day” details.
On September 4th you will take your first step into a larger world and begin your journey towards your professional life. You will join a community of hundreds of students, staff, faculty and thousands of alumni of the I. H. Asper School of Business. Welcome! We look forward to meeting you!
