Mohammed El-Hazzouri

Mohammed El Hazzouri is a fourth year PhD candidate in marketing at Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba, Canada. He works under the supervision of Dr. Sergio Carvalho and Dr. Kelley Main.  Mohammed is interested in studying the effects of social identity and social emotions on consumers’ product usage. Mohammed is also interested in extending attribution theory by looking at its application to issues that are of concern to public policy makers

Mohammed defended his dissertation proposal in November, 2010. Mohammed’s dissertation research investigates how stereotypes about products associated with negative reference groups affect consumers’ usage of these products. Specifically, he proposes that consumers face a stereotype threat when using products associated with dissociative groups. He is investigating the factors that can reduce this threat. Mohammed’s research proposal won the 2010 Marketing & Society Special Interest Group of AMA (MASSIG) dissertation proposal award.

Mohammed already taught fundamentals of marketing and consumer behaviour courses. Mohammed approaches teaching with a lot of enthusiasm. In the class room, he tries to be clear, relevant, direct to the point, yet entertaining. In addition to fundamentals of marketing and consumer behaviour, Mohammed is interested in teaching marketing research, branding, marketing management, and international marketing.

Prior to joining the PhD program in Asper School of Business, Mohammed earned his BA degree in accounting/finance from The Hariri Canadian University, Lebanon.
