Saturday, April 5th, was a night from the past, and a night to remember! This year’s 3rd Annual Manitoba Business Adventurers' Banquet went over the top in celebration of Manitoba’s proud business past. This year’s event transported attendees – MBA students and faculty, and leading business and community leaders – back to 1908, and the creation of Manitoba Government Telephones – MTS Allstream today!

Held at the historic Fort Garry Hotel, the evening started with Boston Ginger Punch (from 1896) and Barbershop Quartet music on the Hotel’s mezzanine.  Following the opening reception, guests, many in period costume, proceeded to the Provencher Ballroom for a gala dinner from a time past – an Edwardian time, an elegant time! The evening’s program, with Ragtime music and spirited toasts throughout, unfolded like clockwork: opening with a “Red River Entry” of the Head table; punctuated at mid-point by a blustery recount of MTS’s beginnings from the Honourable Rodmond Roblin, Premier of Manitoba 1908 (Actor); and concluded with current adventurer thoughts by Mr Pierre Blouin, CEO MTS Allstream today. Helping in the celebration were the Honourable Vic Toews, Honourable Jim Rondeau, and Councillor Justin Swandel representing all three levels of government.  MTS received the Manitoba Historical Society’s Centennial Business Award as part of the evening.

Hearty toast by the Honourable Rodmond Roblin.

Inspired by the richness of Manitoba’s business history, and wishing to boldly proclaim it, the Asper School of Business’ MBA Program set out in 2006 to establish an annual event that would highlight and celebrate the Province’s proud and worthy entrepreneurial past. That event—the Manitoba Business Adventurers’ Banquet—was to showcase individuals and companies that were instrumental in the Province’s development. It was to provide banquet guests the opportunity to relive and revel in exciting times and events past. It was also, in sponsorship of the Manitoba Historical Society’s Centennial Business Award program, to provide an opportunity to acknowledge some Manitoba’s oldest and most successful ongoing enterprises, and their enduring commitment to Manitoba! This year’s banquet did all that and more! It was memorable for all!
