Dr. Usha Mittoo received her Ph.D. in Finance from the University of British Columbia and her M.B.A. from the University of Manitoba, and joined the I.H. Asper School of Business in 1988. From February 1996 to March 1998, she served as Associate Dean and was responsible for the School's AACSB accreditation process.

Dr. Mittoo has received several awards and honors for her teaching, research and service activities including the CMA Merit Award for excellence in teaching and research, and the CGA Merit Award for service. She has served on the board of many organizations and was the Academic chair of the Northern Finance Association meetings held in Winnipeg in September 1997.

Dr. Mittoo has developed and taught a variety of finance courses at the Ph.D., MBA, and undergraduate levels as well as in executive development programs. She is well known for her studies in international capital markets and foreign listings and has published in many finance journals ranging from the prestigious Journal of Finance to practitioner-oriented journals such as Canadian Investment Review. Her research has been cited in several academic papers, Canadian textbooks, and practitioners' newsletters. Dr. Mittoo has obtained several external grants including those from SSHRC, the Financial Research Foundation of Canada, and Industry Canada. She is currently exploring several issues in international capital markets in collaboration with researchers from other universities. These include wealth effects of international joint ventures in China, the relationship between industrial structure and cross-country stock returns in Canadian and Australian markets, cross-border listings in the European markets, and cross-border mergers and acquisitions. In addition, she is also doing a comparative study of capital raising in Canadian and U.S. markets funded by a SSHRC grant.
