Dr. McLachlin teaches operations management courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs, including Fundamentals of Production and Operations Management, Management of Quality and Reliability, Operations Management in Service Organizations, Production Management Seminar, Designing Fast Response Operations, and Global Operations Strategy.
His research interests are in operations strategy. In particular, he is interested in process innovation, such as just-in-time manufacturing and synchronous operations. He also has interests in the role of consultants in implementing process improvements. His publications are in the Journal of Operations Management, Management Decisions, the Operations Management Review, Business Quarterly, and Elsevier Science Publishers.
As well, he is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Operations Management and a member of the Academy of Management, the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada, the Decision Sciences Institute, and the Production and Operations Management Society.
