Finance & Accounting: Overview for Not-for-Profit and Charitable Organizations
Increase your leadership effectiveness with a better understanding of the fundamentals of finance and accounting in your Not-For-Profit or Charitable Organization.

Why This Program?

You will gain an understanding of how to interpret financial information and learn the tools you need for making informed not-for-profit financial decisions. It is important that participants prepare for the session by reviewing briefly their organization’s most recent annual report. They should bring to class an example of a recent operating decision where financial considerations played a role. This could include the decision to acquire resources (ie. hire more people, purchase equipment) or any other decision where finances were considered.

Upon completion of this program you will understand:

  • How to review NFP balance sheets and income statements
  • How your budgeting process impacts the organization's strategy and culture
  • How financial decisions are made for acquiring additional resources, such as expanding headcount and buying equipment
  • The types of information that NFP board members need and how best to present it to them

Who Should Attend?

NFP managers and board members who want to become more confident working with and discussing financial and accounting information, and who would like to improve their decision-making skills.
