    Other advantages of M. Acc.
Avoid studying and articling at the same time
Write the UFE 16 months after graduating rather than 28.

But if you take 9.404 and 9.303 (from Athabaska), you can write the UFE 16 months after graduating without taking the M. Acc.

    Disadvantages
    Give up a year's salary.
Start your articles a year later and therefore receive your C.A. a year later.

  • But note that if you register as a student and work after receiving your B.Comm. but before entering the M.Acc. program, that period counts as part of your articles. Registration effectively costs only $125, for which you receive a CICA Handbook and a subscription to CA Magazine.

    Questions to ask:

    1. What is the salary of a M.Acc. graduate compared to the salary of:
Someone who graduated with a B.Comm. the same year?
Someone who graduated with a B.Comm. the year before?
    2. Same question regarding promotion.
    3. Is a M.Acc. graduate expected to work more overtime than someone still preparing for the UFE?
    4. Does a M.Acc. graduate receive more responsibility and/or more interesting assignments than someone still preparing for the UFE?
    5. Will your employer hold your position while you take the M.Acc.?
    Time line
    M.Acc. Not
