FIRST GROUP ASSIGNMENT
REVISED 98.09.05
Below are some suggestions for form and content of the group work contracts you are to submit by Thursday.
Minimal form:
Here you list team members names, contact numbers, e-mail and WWW addresses and provide a statement regarding the distribution of work and a statement regarding the manner in which failure to perform will be dealt with.
Moderate form:
In this contract, parties agree that all work will be distributed evenly and that the group grade will be assigned uniformly. Here you would list the member names and a brief/general description of the work that they will be performing. You should include deadlines and may include some description of the quality and form of the work to be submitted (i.e. any written work must be typed using WordPerfect, WORD, etc. ...and disk must be provided). You may include provisions for nonperformance. (i.e. member must phone one or more members of group if he/she will not make a meeting...)
Strongest form: standards and consequences outlined
In this contract, parties agree to a detailed list of tasks and responsibilities with attendant consequences for failure. The format of this type of contract would be to list the product/outcome and then generate a list of tasks that need to be undertaken to get that outcome. You would then assign responsibility for each task with deadlines and expectations about quality and quantity. You would also include penalties for failure to complete (e.g. missing deadline without getting agreement of other group members would result in ... loss of marks or having to do additional work, etc. ...). This contract would also include provisions for modifying the contract (i.e. if workload turns out to be heavier/lighter than planned for, members may want to alter deadlines or distribution of tasks). Finally, this contract will outline the "process" by which agreements are made and altered (consensus, majority, etc. ...)
Notes:
All group members' signatures indicating approval of the terms must be appended to the contract. Participation marks will not be awarded to those who have not signed a valid group work contract. Normally all members of a group will receive the same mark on each assignment unless the group advises me otherwise.
This contract, like all other assignments, must be typed (or prepared using a word processor, spreadsheet, or similar computer program).
