Undergraduate awards and scholarships

The majority of Asper School undergraduate scholarships and prizes require no application. When no application is required, all Asper School undergraduate students are automatically eligible for consideration.

Asper School of Business undergraduate students can access and submit the Asper School of Business General Award Online Application by logging into their Aurora Student Account.

For M. Parry Power Bursary, John H. McEown and A. Lewis Watt Bursary and Hartley T. Richardson Bachelor of Commerce Bursary, Asper undergraduate students must complete the online University of Manitoba General Bursary Application and Supplemental Bursary Application by October 1. Additional documentation is required for M. Parry Power Bursary and Hartley T. Richardson Bachelor of Commerce Bursary - see below for application details. For information about completing the online application, please see Bursaries page of the Financial Aid and Awards. Bursaries are awarded to students on the basis of academic merit and financial need.

  • In honour of Dr. Hartley T. Richardson, O.C., O.M., LL.D. 2019 International Distinguished Entrepreneurial Award recipient, friends and family have set up an endowment fund in his name. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial support to students in the I.H. Asper School of Business who are pursuing studies toward a Bachelor of Commerce degree. 

    All newly admitted full-time enrolled students who demonstrate financial need through the UM General Bursary Application and Supplemental Bursary Application forms on Aurora are eligible to apply. 

Master's professional program fellowships

In Fall 2024, the Stu Clark Graduate School is offering $15,000 fellowships for self-funded students entering the professional master's programs who have completed a high school diploma or undergraduate university degree in Canada, and/or are a permanent resident or citizen of Canada.

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

12 fellowships of $15,000 for students with Canadian degrees
3 fellowships of $15,000 for Canadian Indigenous students

Master of Finance (MFin)

4 fellowships of $15,000 for students with Canadian degrees
1 fellowship of $15,000 for Canadian Indigenous students

Master of Supply Chain Management and Logistics (MSCM)

4 fellowships of $15,000 for students with Canadian degrees
1 fellowship of $15,000 for Canadian Indigenous students

Selection

Students do not have to apply for the fellowships, and will be selected using the following criteria:

  • are enrolled either part-time or full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in the first year of study in the Asper MBA, Master of Finance and  Master of Supply Chain programs (they must have started study in this calendar year);
  • have completed a high school diploma or undergraduate university degree in Canada; and/or are a permanent resident or citizen of Canada.
  • have achieved an admission grade point average that is among the top 15 (MBA), 5 (MFin), 5 (MSCM) students who meet the above criteria, with a minimum admission grade point average of 3.0.

Payment schedule

A portion is the fellowship is provided each year based on time to completion of the program.
For second and final payments to be made, the Stu Clark Graduate School will verify that there are no unremediated course failures and that the student is currently in good academic standing and does not have any academic or non-academic violations on record.
The selection committee will have the discretion to determine the number and value of fellowships awarded annually based on available funding and in accordance with the terms above.

International master's student funding

IGSES International Student Scholarship

  • Available for all international students entering the MBA, MFin and Master of Supply Chain programs with a GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Valued at approximately $6,000 annually
  • Renewable in year two if 3.5 GPA is maintained (for MBA and Master of Supply Chain students)

Master of Business Administration Scholarships

MBA in-course scholarships

A varied number and value of awards are offered in fall each year to students who are enrolled (or graduating) as full- or part-time students in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in the Asper MBA program in the Asper School of Business. Additional requirements:

  • Have completed at least 24 credit hours in the Asper MBA program (or are graduating), and have successfully completed FIN 7000, FIN 7020, and ACC 7010 prior to the award offer;
  • Have achieved a minimum degree grade point average of at least 3.5 (NOTE -  the cut-off lowest GPA is usually 4.00 or higher)
  • Do not have any record of academic or other misconduct on their current academic transcript.

Student may only receive this award once in their program.

Additional MBA scholarships

Entrance scholarships (none of these require an application, all new students are automatically considered – awards made in fall for January and August entrants):

  • Two awards valued at $10,000 each for top new students with a combination of admission GPA of 4.00 or higher and GMAT score at 80% percentile or higher (currently 670/680 or higher)
  • Roland Grandpre Entrance Scholarship -  one award of $5000 to entering student who has a min admission GPA of 3.5 and GMAT of 600
  • Variety of smaller awards to entering students with top competitive admission GPAs

Convocation awards:

  • The top graduating student each calendar year receives the T.A. and A.S. Anderson Gold Medal. 
  • Other top graduating students receive prizes from CPA Manitoba Foundation and the Associates. 
  • Students in the program vote annually on the recipient of the Bruce Currie Memorial Prize, awarded to the graduate who best displays the qualities of leadership, generosity, and congeniality in combination with high academic achievement.
     

Master of Finance Scholarships

MFin entrance scholarship:

Sam and Judy Linhart Scholarship in Finance. Provided to the student entering with the highest admission GPA.

MFin convocation award:

Associates Award for Asper MFin Study. $1000 to the top graduating student in the MFin program.

Master of Supply Chain Management and Logistics Scholarships

MSCM convocation award:

Associates Award for Asper MSCM Study. $1000 to the top graduating student in the MSCM program.

MSc Financial assistance

Funding resources may be subject to change. In previous years, we have provided fellowships of UP TO $20,000 per year for two years for each MSc student. The applications to the MSc in Management constitute those for this faculty-based financial support - there is no separate application form required for funding. Only applicants completing their full application on or before the deadline date will be considered for funding.

Canadian Indigenous student funding

Canadian Indigenous Master of Science in Management (MSc) students are eligible up to $20,000 per year for the first two years of study.

International student funding

International students who are admitted with an admission GPA of 3.5+, based on their last 60 credit hours (or equivalent) of study or last equivalent two full years, will automatically receive the International Graduate Student Entrance Scholarship from Faculty of Graduate Studies (IGSES award), valued currently at approximately $6,400.

PhD financial assistance

Funding resources may be subject to change. In previous years, we provided fellowship of up to $30,000 per year for four years for each PhD student. The applications to the PhD in Management constitute those for this faculty-based financial support - there is no separate application form for funding required. Only applicants completing their full applications on or before the deadline date will be considered for funding.

Research funding is also available on a competitive basis through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) doctoral fellowships. Students are encouraged to apply for research of financial support for PhD program including research assistantship (availability may be varied). PhD students may also be offered teaching positions as PhD lecturers during their last two years of the program.

Canadian Indigenous student funding

Canadian Indigenous Management PhD students are eligible for up to $40,000 per year for the first four years.
