Mavis McRae

Mavis McRae has been working as an independent consultant since 2005, specializing in the areas of product development and food safety, project management, and new business development. As graduate of the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science in Food Science, and an MBA in Marketing and Small Business, she further developed her technical and business skills through organizations such as the Food Development Centre, Prairie Centre for Business Intelligence and the National Research Council’s IRAP program. These organizations specialize in offering technical and business advice to small and medium sized businesses. In addition, Mavis maintains ties to science and business students through lectures and presentations at the Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba Food Science and Nanjing University of Finance and Economics.

Her experience has been directly applied to three start-up businesses in the last 12 years. In 1998, Mavis became involved with the start-up of Two Rivers Brewing Company as an investor and marketing advisor. In 2005, she left her role as an Industrial Technology Advisor at the National Research Company to join two business partners in the national launch of Lucky Dog Biscuits™; a natural, human-quality pet treat company. In the first year, the company grew from 30 stores in Winnipeg to over 300 stores across Canada. With contract production in Winnipeg and British Columbia, the company supplied customers and distributors in the pet and specialty grocery markets. Mavis’ most recent project has her developing the North American market for a new bioplastic technology company called Solanyl Biopolymers Inc. The company uses reclaimed potato starch to manufacture biodegradable plastic resins used as a substitute to petroleum based plastics.

An avid diver, outdoor enthusiast and devoted traveler, Mavis is proudly born and raised in Manitoba.
