The University Gold Medal Medal Awarded to the graduating student with highest G.P.A. based on last two years (minimum G.P.A. of 3.75), including transfer courses in the applicable years; and has completed minimum 80% course-load in each of the last two years of the eligible program.
The Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management Medal Two Medals Awarded to graduating student in the two programs (B.P.E., B.Kin., B.R.M.C.D.) not receiving the Gold Medal (same selection criteria as Gold Medal).
Dean's Honour List Recognition Awarded in each of the fall, winter, and summer terms. Requires term GPA of 3.5 or higher, minimum 12 CH in term.
Degree with Distinction Recognition Awarded to students who graduate with a degree GPA of 3.8 or higher.
Dr. A.W. Hogg Scholarship 3 @ $500.00 B.P.E./BKin and B.R.M.C.D. undergraduate scholarship; highest standing in Faculty; students must have qualified for the Dean’s Honour List to be eligible for consideration and have completed a minimum of 80% of a full course-load; must continue at minimum 80% course-load the next year.
Isbister Undergraduate Scholarship 3 @ $525.00 B.P.E., B.Kin. and B.R.M.C.D. undergraduate scholarship; highest sessional G.P.A.; must have completed minimum 80% of a full course-load during the Regular Session; must continue at minimum 80% course-load the next year.
Coca-Cola Bottling Award 1 @ $500.00 The student in one of the degree programs who: has competed as a Bison athlete, has achieved good academic performance (minimum degree G.P.A. of 2.5) in their program, and has demonstrated outstanding athletic performance and potential for continued performance. Must register in and complete 60% of a regular course-load in the following academic year.
NFL/Budweiser Recreation Services Aboriginal Student Development Award 1 @ $250.00 Awarded to a student in one of the degree programs who is enrolled in at least 80% of a full course load; has achieved a minimum degree GPA of 3.0; is Aboriginal (Status, non-Status, Métis, Inuit); has demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities, communication / organizational skills, and involvement in and commitment to extra-curricular activities in the community.

Dr. Vic Corroll General Proficiency Award 1 @ $100.00 B.Kin. graduate, maintained high academic standing (D.G.P.A.), record of involvement in professional service activities at the University of Manitoba and in the community.
Gordon Mackie Athletic Therapy Scholarship 1 @ $350.00 Awarded annually to the student who, in the opinion of the selection committee, shows the most promise in the BKin Athletic Therapy Program; student must register in the next regular session as a full-time student (60% course-load minimum) in either the Faculty of KRM or the Faculty of Graduate Studies in the M.Sc. Kinesiology program; student must have achieved a minimum degree GPA of 3.0.
Athletic Therapy Students Association (ATSA) Scholarship 1 @ $375.00 Awarded to a full-time student in the B.Kin. Athletic Therapy Program; minimum degree G.P.A. of 3.0; must continue in the AT Program in the next ensuing regular academic session (minimum 60% course-load) or be attempting his/her CATA written or oral practical exam in the academic session in which this award is tenable; is a certification candidate with the CATA and MATA; demonstrates competence in the field of athletic therapy and a commitment to the Athletic Therapy Program at the U of M. Students cannot win this scholarship in two consecutive years and they cannot hold both this scholarship and the Gordon Mackie Scholarship at the same time.
Jeffrey S. Train Athletic Therapy Award 1 @ $500.00 The purpose of award is not necessarily to recognize academic excellence but to recognize students who show commitment to excellence in practice; awarded to a B.Kin. Athletic Therapy Program student with satisfactory academic standing (minimum degree GPA of 2.0); student must have completed the first year of the program (minimum 60% of a full-course load); student must have demonstrated the ability to interact positively with co-workers and patients, while applying the academic knowledge of athletic therapy; student must show a commitment to the team to which they are appointed; the Award may not be held with any other scholarship in the Faculty of KRM.
Kinesiology Entrance Scholarship 1 @ $200.00 Kinesiology entering student, with the highest admission A.G.P.A.; required to register as a full-time student in the academic session in which this award is tenable (minimum 80% course-load).

Dick LaPage Scholarship 1 @ $200.00 B.P.E. entering student, with the highest admission A.G.P.A.; required to register as a full-time student in the academic session in which this award is tenable (minimum 80% course-load).
John MacDiarmid Scholarship 1 @ $450.00 BPE undergraduate; high academic standing (minimum sessional G.P.A. 3.20); enrolled as a full-time student (minimum 80%) and must continue as such in the succeeding year.
The University Women’s Club Physical Education Scholarship 1 @ $500.00 B.P.E. graduate entering after-degree Bachelor of Education program in the early years stream. (Administered by the Faculty of Education.)

Train Award 1 @ $250.00 BRMCD undergraduate student with good academic standing (minimum degree G.P.A. of 2.0); completed the first year of the program/Year 2 (minimum 60% of a full course-load in the previous year); and demonstrated the ability to interact positively with peers, while applying the academic knowledge of the profession through community involvement; must register minimum 60% of a full course-load.
Western Canada Recreation Studies Conference Scholarship 1 @ $300.00 BRMCD undergraduate entering final year of program/Year 4; minimum degree G.P.A. of 3.5; professional involvement in conference, student and professional activities; must register minimum 80% of a full course-load.
NFL/Budweiser Recreation Services Student Training Award 1 @ $250.00 Awarded to a BRMCD student who is enrolled in at least 80% of a full course load; has achieved a minimum degree GPA of 3.0; has demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities, communication/organizational skills, and involvement in and commitment to extra-curricular activities in the community; has demonstrated involvement in sport or recreation development in Manitoba; registers for a seminar or conference in sport administration and management.
Matthew Frost Award in Recreation Management & Community Development 2 @ $1000.00 Awarded to BRMCD students who have demonstrated an interest in sport management; students have been accepted to participate in the fieldwork experience in the following order of priority: (1) The Manitoba Moose; (2) another professional sports franchise; (3) Sport Manitoba, Bison Sports, or equivalent.

For the following bursaries, students must demonstrate financial need using the standard University of Manitoba bursary application. Decisions are made by the Financial Aid and Awards office.

Jeffrey S. Train Bursary 1 @ $250.00 BRMCD undergraduate; with good academic standing (minimum degree G.P.A. of 2.0 on 60% course-load previous year); demonstrated ability to interact positively with peers; and demonstrated financial need; must continue at minimum 60% of a full course-load; demonstrated financial need.
Frosty Golf Classic Bursary in Recreation Management and Community Development 1 @ $1000.00 Awarded to a student who is enrolled full-time in the BRMCD degree program and has achieved a minimum degree GPA of 2.5; demonstrated financial need.

 

 

AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS IN BISON RECREATION SERVICES PROGRAMS

Joyce Fromson Memorial Award 1 @ TBA Enrolled at the University of Manitoba in any Faculty or School; has achieved a minimum degree G.P.A. of 3.0; has been employed at least one full summer as a Mini-University Summer Staff member; has demonstrated exceptional performance on the job. Applicants will be required to submit a completed application form, a statement that outlines why they qualify for the award (what they have done and will continue to do to benefit child development) and two letters of reference (i.e., previous employers, professors, volunteer coordinators, etc., who are not Mini-U staff).
NFL/Budweiser Intramural Fair Play Award 1 @ $250.00 Enrolled in at least 80% of a full course load in any Faculty or School; has achieved a minimum degree GPA of at least 3.0; has participated in the Intramural program within the context of the spirit of play and competition, has demonstrated the pure satisfaction of participation (fun, fitness, friendship, etc.), has upheld a high standard of integrity and fair play with the idea of cooperative competition, and has provided an arena whereby social relations and attitudes can be developed and high standard of sportsmanship can be encouraged; has been nominated by a member of an opposing team (of the same sport) for this award.
NFL/Budweiser Intramural Manager Award 1 @ $250.00 Enrolled in at least 80% of a full course load in any Faculty or School; has achieved a minimum degree GPA of at least 3.0; is employed as an Intramural Manager for Recreation Services at the University of Manitoba; has demonstrated exemplary leadership, communication and organizational skills while serving as an Intramural Manager with Recreation Services; has been nominated by a fellow student employee or a staff member for this award.

Dale Iwanoczko Memorial Volleyball Alumni Scholarship Between $500.00-$3,000.00 U of M returning men’s volleyball player; eligible to compete in CIS competition; has completed at least 80% of a full course-load with a minimum G.P.A. of 3.5 during the previous calendar year; demonstrated athletic ability in men’s volleyball; must continue minimum 80% of a full course-load.
Earl Lunsford Bursary 1 @ $500.00 U of M entering or continuing student; outstanding football performance; financial need; good academic standing; must continue minimum 60% of full course-load.
Ed Kotowich Award 1 @ $1,000.00 Awarded to a student who plays in an offensive or defensive position on the Bisons Football Team and has completed at least one year of full-time coursework; must have achieved a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5; and must have achieved the highest grade point average among the eligible students; must continue minimum 80% of a full-course-load.
Fort Garry Invitational Tournament Bursary 1 @ $150.00 B.P.E. entering student who has played in the Fort Garry Invitational Tournament during the three-year period prior to entering the degree program.
Jim Bulloch Award Up to a maximum of $1,500.00 CIS eligible basketball athlete who has completed at least two academic terms within a period of twelve consecutive months as a full-time student (minimum 60% of a full course-load); good academic standing (minimum 2.0 G.P.A.); demonstrated athletic ability and active leadership in basketball.
Larry Switzer and Wayne McMahon Scholarship Minimum $300.00 Awarded to a student who has completed at least one year of full-time study at the U of M; has achieved a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0; enrolls full-time in the academic session in which this award is tenable; is participating in track and field and is a member of Athletics Manitoba; has demonstrated leadership and involvement within the sport community in Manitoba.
Loriann Sawatzky Women’s Volleyball Scholarship Between $500.00-$3,000.00 Returning student; CIS eligible volleyball athlete; has completed minimum of 80% course-load with a minimum G.P.A. of 3.5 during previous calendar year; demonstrated athletic ability in women’s volleyball; must continue minimum 80% of a full course-load.
Manitoba Government Athletic Award Up to a maximum of $1,500.00 Member of a Bison inter-collegiate team in good standing.
Men’s Basketball Alumni Scholarship Between $500.00-$3,000.00 Entering undergraduate student; CIS eligible basketball player; high academic achievement (minimum high school average of 80%); demonstrated athletic ability in men’s basketball.
Men’s Volleyball Alumni Scholarship Up to $3,000.00 Entering student; demonstrated high academic achievement (minimum grade point average of 80% or equivalent on the work of the previous full year); demonstrated ability in men’s volleyball.
Michelle Sawatzky Women’s Volleyball Scholaship Between $500.00-$3,000.00 Awarded to entering student; CIS eligible volleyball athlete; demonstrated high academic achievement (minimum high school average of 80%); demonstrated athletic ability in women’s volleyball; must continue at 80% of a full course-load.
Perth’s Services Limited Award 1 @ 1,000.00 Must have completed at least one year of study at the University of Manitoba; outstanding volleyball performance; good academic standing; must continue minimum 60% of a full course-load.
SAHPER Travelling Award TBA Awarded to undergraduate or recent graduate of the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management; participated in SAHPER activities; demonstrates benefit of travel to SAHPER. Applications are to be available from SAHPER.
Wayne Cadogan Award (Bursary) 3 @ $500.00 One award each will be offered to a student participating in the Bison Football, Track & Field, and Basketball programs; must have completed full 2nd year of any degree-credit program at the University of Manitoba with a minimum C.G.P.A. of 3.0; enrolled with a full course-load in the next year; demonstrates financial need.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers Alumni Scholarship TBA Undergraduate student with demonstrated high academic achievement (minimum high school average of 80%); demonstrated athletic ability in football; must continue minimum 80% of a full-course load.
