Casual rec use

Play your favourite sports and activities!

Members have access to 1500 plus hours of casual rec use time. From swimming to ice skating, there's an activity available for you to enjoy at no additional cost.

Certified fitness professionals

Look for the friendly faces in the blue shirts!

Our fitness attendants are certified through the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology (CSEP) as Clinical Exercise Physiologists (CEP) or Certified Personal Trainers (CPT) to provide you with knowledge and direction to help you achieve your desired results.

Our friendly and welcoming attendants are on the fitness floor from open to close and are always available to answer your questions, give you a spot or chat about how the Jets didn't make the playoffs...

Group fitness classes

Excellent classes. Great instructors. No additional cost!

  • We offer varied content and intensity, low to high, muscle to cardio, interval to continuous, flexibility to strength and combinations of each.
  • All instructors are accredited through the Manitoba Fitness Council and other national organizations, ensuring you are getting safe, high-quality instruction.
  • We offer plenty of classes to ensure members will always have an option available during a time that fits their schedule.

Medical and Membership freeze

Non-student members can freeze their membership for one-month increments without advance notice for $10/month + GST, paid upfront (i.e. a three-month freeze would cost $30 + GST). Membership freezing is exclusive to individuals with a 12-month membership only.

All medical freeze requests will be reviewed/approved by the Director of Recreation Services.

Strong Start

All UM students and members can book a free Strong Start session with the fitness attendants. These sessions allow you to take advantage of the knowledge and expertise of our certified staff so you can get a strong start and achieve your fitness goals!


What is Strong Start?

The goal of Strong Start is to set you up for success. In this 30-minute one-on-one meeting with a fitness attendant, you will be able to:

  • Speak with an Active Living Professional about your health and fitness goals.
  • Participate in a customized guided tour through our facilities.
  • Learn about what we offer and how to access important information (i.e. schedules, facility updates, events).

Reminder: This service is not a personal training session.

Payment Options

Payment plan

Pay your membership monthly with a Visa or Mastercard. This option requires a $25 administration fee and is available online or in person.

Payroll deduction

Full-time UM Staff can have their membership fees deducted from their payroll. Please get in touch with the customer service desk at 204.474.6100 for more information. 


Partner Rates

Partners of UM Staff, alumni and on-campus staff qualify for the same rate as the primary membership holder. Partners must provide proof that they live in the same residence as the primary membership holder. Partner memberships can be added when applying for a membership online.

  • *Daily drop-in rate:
    • Adult: $18 per visit
    • Youth: $9 per visit

*Tax included in the price for daily drop-in rates.

Drop-in options are available for purchase in person. Please visit the Active Living Centre or Joe Doupe Recreation Centre and speak to a customer service representative for more information.

 


UM Students

  • Student access:

    By way of the Sport and Rec Fee, eligible students have access to available facilities in the Active Living Centre, Frank Kennedy Centre and Max Bell Centre at the Fort Garry campus and the Joe Doupe Recreation Centre at the Bannatyne campus.

    Eligibility is dependent on:
    • Enrollment (registered for classes in the current term)
    • Completion of the Aurora waiver within the academic year.
      • Enrollment & Academic Records > Declarations > Gym waiver/agreement.

Activation and two-day grace period:

Once you have met all the eligibility requirements, you will receive an email confirming your access has been activated within approximately two business days. Please wait two business days before inquiring about the status of your student access. 

Students under 18:

If you are under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must sign your Gym Waiver/Agreement. Please download, print and send the fully completed waiver to rec_services@umanitoba.ca to be processed.

Gym waiver/agreement

ICM students: 

To access the gym, ICM students must first complete the Gym waiver/agreement by logging in to their student portal account at the following pathway:

  • Student Resources > select “Forms” in the dropdown > click Active Living Center Waiver.

Summer term access:

Students that were enrolled in classes in the winter term but are not continuing in the spring or summer term can come to the customer service desk and purchase a non-student access membership.
