We strongly encourage our students to consider making recreation a regular part of their day. It is documented that students who participate in consistent aerobic physical activity can reap the benefits of increased concentration, memory, creativity and problem solving skills. Regular physical activity can also aid in helping to reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep and is also linked to helping students achieve better grades.
This fee supports the University of Manitoba's commitment to active living, sports and recreation. The Sport and Recreation Fee will be assessed to all University of Manitoba students, excluding those with existing agreements precluding the payment of service fees to the U of M.
Here's how students assessed the fee can get access to our facilities:
You are all set! We have a current waiver on file for all returning students who have activated their student pass in previous years which means they will be provided access once the term starts (Fall term and winter term begin September 1st and January 1st respectively).
"That's great! But How do I access Recreation Services facilities?" - U o f M Returning Student
Good question! You simply show up and use your student card to swipe in at either campus. If your card doesn't work when you swipe, please speak with one of our customer service representatives.
New students will need to have their student ID and sign a waiver before they can start accessing Recreation Services facilities, so be sure to get your student card from the Registrar's Office once you are enrolled in classes. The waiver is available in person at either the Active Living Centre or Joe Doupe Recreation Centre and we will also have waivers at a few kiosks around campus during the beginning of September. The waiver is also available online for those students who'd prefer to print a copy and drop it off at one of our customer service desks. Online Waiver Form
If you are an active U of M student currently not enrolled in classes, you are eligible to purchase a discounted student membership for the term you are not enrolled in. To purchase your membership, visit one of our customer service desk locations with your U of M student card.
