What is Sneakers in motion Day?

The University of Manitoba and Recreation Services host Sneakers in motion Day each year to promote a vibrant campus where healthy living and quality of life matter.  It’s an opportunity for the University of Manitoba to demonstrate just how important physical activity is for employee and student wellness.

The event begins with and enthusiastic group warm-up on the Curry Place Pedway.  The warm-up will be followed by an entertaining walk around campus.  After the walk, a healthy pre-purchased lunch will be served and door prizes will be awarded for attendance, participation and costume creativity.

Where is Sneakers in motion Day?

                  On the Fort Garry campus Sneakers in motion Day will be held on the Curry Place Pedway which is the walkway located between the Extended Education Complex and University Centre.  In the event on inclement weather we will relocate to the Max Bell Centre and a campus wide e-memo will be sent out in the morning.  Information for Sneakers in motion Day at Bannatyne campus can be found at the following link http://umanitoba.ca/faculties/kinrec/bsal/special/sneakerday/bannatyne.php

How do I purchase lunch for Sneakers in motion Day?

                  Lunch tickets for Sneakers in motion Day will go on sale May 8, 2012.  Print a the lunch order form (available May 8th) and proceed to the Customer Service Desk in the Frank Kennedy Centre or the Answers Booth in University Centre to place your order and receive your lunch ticket(s). 

Alternately you may complete the lunch order form (available May 8th) and email it to kdorge@cc.umanitoba.ca along with the appropriate credit card information and we will deliver the lunch tickets to you.  Please note that this service is available to Fort Garry campus offices only.

What’s new this year?

                  The Sneakers in motion Day committee will be accepting gently used sneakers that will be donated to adults and children to encourage the pursuit of active lifestyles and wellness through physical activity.

What else should I know about Sneakers in motion Day?

                  An exciting component of Sneakers in motion Day is that teams and individuals are invited arrive to the event dressed in costume.  “Celebrity” guest judges will award fabulous prizes to groups and individuals who get in the spirit and show us their enthusiasm for active living.  See the prize category link  for more information.
