The University of Manitoba and Recreation Services, along with the Bannatyne Campus is pleased to invite you and your colleagues to join in the 24th annual Sneakers In motion Day on Thursday June 13th, 2013 at 12:00 pm.
This initiative is devoted to promoting vibrant, healthy living and quality of life. It’s an opportunity for the University of Manitoba to show just how important physical activity is to employee wellness. Proceeds for this event will be donated to the SUMMER WEEKEND INNER-CITY SUPERVISED HOOPS (SWISH) program.
BACKGROUND
The SWISH program is held yearly in Parking Lot E from June 30 – August 11, which is used as a drop-in basketball venue every Saturday from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Approximately 129 youth from the inner city stop by to shoot hoops, participate in 3-on-3 games or develop their technique over the course of this program. SWISH also partners with the faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Kinesiology & Recreation Management and School of Medical Rehabilitation, as well as Basketball Manitoba, City of Winnipeg and the Youth Agencies Alliance and its members.
EVENT
The event begins with an enthusiastic group warm up, followed by a beautiful walk around the Bannatyne Campus and special activities in the Brodie Center Atrium! After the walk, a healthy lunch is served and great door prizes are awarded.
Lunch and 50/25/25 tickets can be purchased at the Joe Doupe Centre and the University of Manitoba Bannatyne book store and through our event champions located throughout the community.
