Children from low-income families are enjoying Mini University thanks in part to a fund established in memory of the late Edward James (Ted) Barkwell, whose lifelong passion for sports lives on. The Ted Barkwell Memorial Fund allows underprivileged kids to meet new friends at summer and ice camps and learn new skills in a university setting. To contribute to the fund, contact the Department of Development at (204) 474-9195, or email development@umanitoba.ca. To make a donation online, visit www.umanitoba.ca/admin/dev_adv.
Mini University thanks its many donors, including Robert Alan Kennedy who, in 2004, made a $75,000 pledge to the program. His generosity has helped less advantaged kids participate in this world-class children’s day program. Kennedy has supported numerous U of M initiatives, and his desire to make quality programs accessible to all children has been outstanding.
This program made possible through funding from the Government of Canada, the Province of Manitoba, Winnipeg School Division and Manitoba Hydro.
