Immunization

All students in the Max Rady College of Medicine must read and complete the immunization documents by July 15, 2023:

  1. Student welcome letter
  2. Student manual
  3. Immunization package

Incoming UGME students

The UGME Program Office is prepared to receive all documents by email/scan, including your proof of CPR and your Criminal Record Checks. Deadlines for documentation are set by UGME and will be provided to you via email—check your UM account regularly.

CPR training

All students must be CPR certified in a course designated as "Basic Life Support - BLS Provider" acceptable to the standards of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. 

Course providers

You can also take a course with another provider, provided that:

  • The course is a BLS Provider Course
  • The course is certified through the Heart & Stroke Foundation

Your certification card must show the Heart and Stroke symbol on it.

 

Deadline

Students are encouraged to complete the CPR course before the July 15, 2023 deadline.

If you are unable to complete the course by the deadline, please provide a copy of your CPR course registration receipt by the deadline and complete the course prior to the start of class.

Security checks

All students in the Max Rady College of Medicine are required to complete the following annually in order to participate in the program:

  • Criminal record check with vulnerable sector search
  • Adult abuse registry check
  • Child abuse registry check 

Notification

The enrolment administrator will contact students each year with details on how to complete the Adult Abuse Registry and Child Abuse Registry applications .

Deadline

You must provide results of the above checks by the July 15, 2023 deadline.

If you are unable to complete the checks by the deadline, please provide a copy of your receipt for the checks by the deadline, with the checks being received by the enrolment administrator no later than the first day of classes while enrolled in the program.

The checks must have an issue date no earlier than May 1 of the current year.

Registration for incoming Med 1 students

Registration Week will take place the week prior to Orientation week.

Each incoming Med 1 student will book an appointment to meet with staff and receive the following important items:

  • Assigned mailbox and key
  • Assigned locker with lock and key
  • UM student ID
  • White coat
  • Nametag
  • Lanyard and other important items

Instructions regarding registration for your appointment will be sent out by the Admissions Office.

Clinical Learning and Simulation Facility (CLSF)

All students must complete the CLSF user form and release and return it to enrollmentugme@umanitoba.ca.

Photo/Video/Audio Consent and Waiver Forms

Students must read, complete and sign the Photo/Video/Audio Consent and Waiver Form and email the completed form to enrollmentugme@umanitoba.ca.

Line of credit

Remember that during your first week of classes, you will receive presentations on financing your education and financial aid.

Confirmation or certifying letters will not be available until after you are registered for your courses. This usually occurs late July.

Please request your letter at enrollmentugme@umanitoba.ca. Before this happens, we may be able to provide confirmation that you have been accepted to the MD Program, but not yet enrolled.

Technical standards

Students must review the Essential skills and abilities (technical standards) for admission, promotion and graduation

You must also complete and submit your acknowledgment and agreement of UGME technical standards and university accessibility policy form.

Regulatory bodies

  • College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM)

    Membership in the CPSM is integral to your role as a medical learner.

    Registration is required annually and is separate from your enrolment/registration in UM's medical program. 

    By August 1, 2023 students must complete and submit their CPSM registration. Further details will be emailed to admitted students by CPSM.

  • Doctors Manitoba

    Doctors Manitoba is the provincial/territorial medical association in Manitoba. They are here to help you succeed in medical school and your future - membership is complimentary for medical students.

    By August 1, 2023, students must:

  • Canadian Medical Association (CMA)

    As a new medical student, you can now be a part of the medical profession's national voice. The CMA's focus is on creating strong and accessible health systems, fostering well-being and diversity in medical culture, and ensuring every person in Canada has equal opportunity to be healthy. In partnership with physicians, medical learners, patients, and others, they advance these goals through advocacy, knowledge sharing and granting.

    By August 1, 2023, students must register online with the CMA.

Technology

Laptops

It is expected that UGME students will have their own laptop computer to use during examinations. Please ensure your laptop has a camera and microphone and that you have access to a high speed internet connection.

UM email

Students are required to have and use a UM email account to communicate with faculty, academic advisors, and other members of the university. Setting up your UM email is quick and easy.

If you already have a UM account, please email medicine.admissions@umanitoba.ca from that account to ensure that it is still on file and activated.

Wifi

A wireless network is available throughout the campus through uofm-secure.

All applicants satisfying the admission requirements as outlined in the Applicant Information Bulletin 2022 – 2023 are eligible for consideration. However, selection is academically competitive, and attainment of the minimum requirements does not guarantee selection and admission.
