About the program

During your orthopedic residency, you will rotate through a variety of core and specialty fields, including training in adult reconstruction, pediatric orthopedics, hand surgery, trauma and spine surgery. You can also choose to use one month of your elective opportunities to dive deeper into an orthopedic subspecialty that particularly interests you.

Academic sessions

Through seminars, rounds, academic day and conferences, you will acquire an in-depth understanding of basic mechanisms of normal and abnormal conditions and acquires the ability to apply current knowledge to orthopedic surgery.

Each surgical sub-specialty holds scheduled academic rounds once a week, giving you insight into a broad range of surgical fields. As an orthopedic surgery resident, you'll attend monthly Department of Surgery grand rounds and orthopedic grand grounds, with interesting topics presented by faculty, visiting professors and residents.

The Surgical Foundations Program is comprised of weekly education sessions, surgical skills courses, assigned reading and presentations by second-year residents to help you build the basic blocks of knowledge and skills in your pursuit of a career in surgery.
