Research summary

Dr. Shankar’s research looks into diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology, endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysm including SILK flow diversion technique, carotid stenting, intracranial stenting, cranial and spinal AVM and AVF embolization, acute stroke endovascular thrombectomy, bleomycin embolization of veno-lymphatic malformation of head and neck, vertebroplasty and spinal procedures for back pain. He also studies endovascular treatments in pediatric neuro-vascular diseases. He is leading studies on embolization of middle meningeal artery (EMMA) for chronic subdural hematoma.

Dr. Shankar is the principal investigator for ongoing clinical trials:

Management of chronic subdural hematoma with or without Embolization of Middle Meningeal Artery in Canada (EMMA-Can) – A randomized control trial

Computed tomography perfusion for neurological death determination: A prospective Canadian multicenter diagnostic test study (INDEx)

Early diagnosis of mortality using Admission CT perfusion in severe Traumatic Brain Injury patients (ACT-TBI study)

CT Perfusion (CTP) for Assessment of Poor Neurological Outcome in Comatose Cardiac Arrest Patients (CANCCAP) – a Prospective Cohort Study

Isolated restricted Diffusion at admission predicts survival in patients of Glioblastoma Multiforme (IRD GBM)-A prospective pilot study
