Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Radiology at the University of Manitoba

As chairman it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Radiology. The website will give you an insight into the clinical, educational and research activities of the department.

The UoM Radiology Department is the only academic radiology department in the province and includes the section of Diagnostic Radiology, Pediatric Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Oncology and Medical Physics.

Radiology has a long standing tradition at the University of Manitoba and has transferred over the years into an independent but strong integrating central discipline in the clinical environment.

Using high end technical equipment and highly technical services which allow us a view into the human body we continuously support the clinical departments in their patient management. The interventional sections for general and neuroradiology have established high end non- or minimally  invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

The section of radiation oncology is embedded into the clinical oncologic program of Cancer Care Manitoba.

The faculty clinically serves the two tertiary hospitals in Winnipeg – Health Sciences Centre and St.Boniface General Hospital as well as the Winnipeg Community Hospitals and the Pan AM Clinic.

The diagnostic radiology section provides service in all imaging modalities and operates the newest radiological equipment including MRI, CT, X-ray and US.

The department is fully integrated in the academic activities at the medical faculty and university campus including the following research centers: The KIAM center for diagnostic research, and the facilities and NRC campus.

The Department offers intensive teaching to medical students in the Undergraduate Programs, radiology, nuclear medicine and radiation oncology residents, clinical and research fellows, as well as members of other clinical programs and university departments. The educational mission has always been paramount for the University of Manitoba Radiology Department. Electives, Residents and Fellows in the Department encompasses a vast clinical experience, constant interaction with or specialists in all areas of diagnostic radiology nuclear medicine and radiation oncology.

Our faculty has intensive clinical and research corporations within the university, nationally and internationally including summer student programs.

If you wish to learn more about radiology in Winnipeg or have any comments please feel free to send us an email or give us a call.
