Resident Program Selection Criteria


  • Graduate from an accredited medical school.
  • Must either be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status.
  • Must be very fluent in spoken and written English with excellent communication skills.
  • Has never had disciplinary action from a medical regulatory authority.
  • Three letters of reference are required.
  • Reference letters must be dated no later than one year from time of receipt.
  • Maturity, empathy and sensitivity to women's issues.
  • Above average academic record.
  • Elective Requirements:
    • We require applicants to have completed at leat one elective in our specialty.
  • On Site Elective:
    • We encourage applicants to have completed at least one elective in Manitoba
  • At least one reference from an academic specialist in Ob/Gyn.  
  • Other information regarding elective requirement:
    • Demonstrated personal and professional connections with Manitoba will increase competetiveness.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            



A personal letter is required. The letter should include the applicant's background, perceived strengths and weaknesses, interests in obstetrics and gynecology, future plans and what you expect to gain from the residency program.



Three letters of reference are required and must be submitted prior to the interview period.




All applications will be reviewed and applicants who are short-listed will be offered interviews. A tour of the facility will be arranged.

Applicants to the Residency Programs must submit the following:

  • Letter of Intent
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Names and contact information of 3 references
  • Evidence of Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Exam (IMG only)

Applications are considered from individuals sponsored by agencies; approved by the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. Applicants must apply with their home Sponsoring Agency who will direct the applications to the PGME office.
