Immunology Student President

Departmental Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the students’ interests at Immunology Department Meetings, including the bi-annual Departmental meetings, Promotions Committee, Headship Committee and Admissions/Graduate Program Committee.
  • Meet with Student Council at end of the year to determine the Teaching Excellence in Immunology Award
  • Organize a distinguished immunologist to visit and give a lecture to the department -- to be discussed with Department Head (Responsibility of the outgoing Immunology Student President).

General Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support council members to ensure they are doing their duties.
  • Welcome new students and inform them of your position.
  • Meet with students upon request to discuss departmental issues or concerns
  • Maintain the email list of students, postdocs, and trainees.
  • Lead discussion during mentorship lunches.
  • Train new Immunology Student Representatives

Financial Responsibilities

  • Keep financial records of all expenses.
  • Ensuring signing authority is correct and changed on departmental bank account.
  • Balance and maintain books.
  • Apply for additional funding through the Graduate Student Association.

Social Responsibilities

  • Support the Immunology Deputy and Department Head in the organization of Immunology functions, including the Halloween Party, Christmas Party and Summer Picnic.
  • Support the Immunology Deputy Rep in planning two or three student workshops and mentorship lunches.
  • Support the organization (through sponsorship) of two independently planned non-academic student activities (i.e. fun events).
  • Appoint an organizer for an intramural team at the Joe Doupe Activity Centre (if feasible).

HSGSA Responsibilities

  • Represent Student Interests at monthly HSGSA council meetings (required for HSGSA funding).
    • Attend and encourage Immunology Student attendance for HSGSA events.
    • Apply bi-annually for funds to the HSGSA/GSA.
    • Participate in 2 (minimum) HSGSA sub committees.
    • Revising and forward the Immunology grad student email directory to the HSGSA

Immunology Student Deputy

Departmental Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize Immunology functions, including the Halloween Party, Christmas Party and Summer Picnic. Appoint immunology student volunteers (e.g. Immunology Social Team) for assistance.
  • Organize and oversee all parts of the Teaching Excellence in Immunology award.
    • Pick up evaluation forms from Karen.
    • Hand out evaluation forms to students after final exam (coordinate with Karen)
    • Collect forms immediately, photocopy, and give originals to Karen
    • Compile results & determine winner
    • Engrave plaque and present during the awards reception

General Responsibilities

  • Attend meetings and assist any duties the Student Rep cannot undertake (i.e. department meetings, HSGSA meetings etc).

Financial Responsibilities

  • Alternate signing authority for cheques.

HSGSA Responsibilities

  • Act as alternate for HSGSA Council Meetings
  • Participate in HSGSA events and activities.
  • Participate in a HSGSA sub-committee.

Immunology Academic Representative:

Departmental Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and oversee Journal Clubs and Research Seminar:
    • Ensure that articles are sent out to the entire department one week prior to presentations.
    • Email students of cancellations to journal clubs or research seminars.
    • Prepare sign in sheets for Journal Clubs and Research Seminars.
    • Hand out and collect Journal Club and Research Seminar Evaluations.
        • Compile Results for Journal Club and Research Seminar.
        • Email comments regarding presentations within the following week.
        • Send the top 5 scores with names to the Journal Club / Research Seminar Coordinator (Dr. Aaron Marshall).

HSGSA Responsibilities

  • Participate in HSGSA events and activities.
  • Act as back-up alternate for HSGSA council meetings.
