Dr. Kerstin Stieber Roger - Biography

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences (Rady Faculty of Health Sciences) at the University of Manitoba. My current research focuses on family and community interfacing with informal and formal health care systems including topics in aging, chronic illness, HIV, and wellness. Critical questions I pose through my research include : how do we engage with our own ideas about health, and the health care system, as community members? How do people engage similarly or differently, and why? How do our stories and the many visual images available help us to explore and explain that engagement? I have been a Principal Investigator on multi-site nationally funded research (e.g. PHAC, SSHRC, Movember, Aboriginal Health and Wellness, HRSDC), as well as conducting provincial and regionally funded research. I have worked on international collaborations, local not-for-profit community initiatives, and have continued to engage my graduate students in my research and publications for over fifteen years.  In 2008, began and continue to facilitate the Qualitative Research Group (QRG) click here.
