Leah McDonnell is originally from Toronto, Ontario, and moved to Winnipeg in 2014 to attend the University of Winnipeg for their Master’s in Development Practices. She has a BA in Political Science from York University (Glendon College) and an MDP from the University of Winnipeg. She has travelled the world and worked in different countries as a researcher and activist, mainly working with asylum seekers, refugees and new comers. Her main academic interest is in regard to human trafficking in Canada. Leah has been working at the Manitoba First Nations Centre for Aboriginal Health Research from 2015 on various community-based projects as a research assistant. She has plans for a PhD focusing on sex trafficking in Canada, in the near future.
