Dr. Derek Kornelsen, BAH, MA, PhD
Dr. Kornelsen holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of British Colombia, an MA in Political Studies from University of Manitoba, and a BAH in Psychology from The University of Winnipeg. His recent dissertation work focuses on both Western and Turtle Island (North American) Indigenous political thought and philosophies and works towards conceptualizing a mutually beneficial relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples by comparing/contrasting Indigenous and Western conceptions of citizenship, or what it means to be part of a political community and belong to a particular place. He is currently working with the Manitoba First Nations Centre for Aboriginal Health Research and is  involved in developing a number of local, national, and international research projects and partnerships, as well as working to develop a research program exploring Indigenous peoples' connections to land as a social determinant of cultural/social well-being and health.
