Margaret Lavallee, CAHE’s Elder-in-Residence, provides cultural oversight for the centre and directs the cultural events and sessions hosted at CAHE. Her primary role is to be a support and resource for student members, and she maintains regular office hours for drop-in or scheduled appointments.
Student members may also work with the Elder-in-Residence to arrange group teaching sessions for themselves and/or members of their class. Examples of topics that have been covered in past sessions include Preparing Tobacco Ties, Sweatlodge Teachings, and Traditional Medicines.
CAHE’s Elder-in-Residence is also available to assist students in their journey to discover their culture and learn about traditional practices. Guidance is provided on an individual basis.
