Dr. Brian Postl, Dean, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and Dr. Christine Ateah, Vice-Dean, Education are pleased to announce Nicole Harder RN, PhD, CHSE has been appointed Mindermar Professor in Human Simulation in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences effective January 1, 2019.
Dr. Nicole Harder is an assistant professor in the College of Nursing, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences. She received her baccalaureate nursing degree from the University of Manitoba in 1996, a Master’s of Public Administration from the universities of Winnipeg/Manitoba in 2002, and her PhD in Nursing from the University of Alberta. Dr. Harder’s doctoral research was an ethnographic study of student learning in high fidelity simulation. She has been a faculty member with the University of Manitoba since 2000 in a variety of positions, including serving as the co-ordinator for the College of Nursing Simulation Learning Centre.
Dr. Harder has conducted several education sessions nationally and internationally educating faculty members on techniques in simulation and how to create effective simulation-based learning experiences. Her simulation research work has been funded locally and nationally. She has authored numerous papers and contributed to book chapters on the use of simulation in nursing education.
Dr. Harder is the editor-in-chief for Clinical Simulation in Nursing, and serves on the board of directors for the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning, and with the Réseau Simulation Canada Network. In addition, she has served as the co-chair of the Canadian Association for Schools of Nursing (CASN) Taskforce on Clinical Education, and as the former chair of the CASN Simulation Special Interest Group.
