Our Health Promotion Team member, Shauna, and three senior dental hygiene students recently travelled to Churchill, Manitoba for Oral Health Promotion Week 2018. This year’s theme was “Your Smile… What Lies Below the Surface?” where hidden oral problems were revealed through fun oral health activities, games, and clinical dental hygiene care at the Churchill Dental Clinic.
We had so much fun with the K - 12 students at Duke of Marlborough School. We played games to test their oral health knowledge and were impressed with what they knew!
We had a great time meeting the families at The Family Centre during our two oral health events which focused on improving oral health for the whole family.
We made our very first visit to the Peer Programming group and led an oral health workshop for the parents, staff and children. The group’s excitement and energy was such a pleasure.
We loved meeting & visiting with families Healthy Baby Group. We shared oral health tips and recommendations for a lifetime of healthy smiles!
We enjoyed meeting some of the physicians and nurses at our lunch and learn presentation for staff at the Churchill Health Centre. We discussed the connection between oral health and overall health as well as caries preventions strategies and water fluoridation.
We got to know several Churchill residents quite well during our day of dental hygiene clinical care at the Churchill Dental Clinic. We hope community members learned some valuable tips to keep their smile healthy!
We would like to send a huge thank you the town of Churchill for so warmly welcoming us into your community and embracing Oral Health Promotion Week 2018. The Churchill community is a valuable partnership with the Centre for Community Oral Health and we look forward to continued collaboration with the wonderful residents of Churchill for many years to come.
