Thesis: Obtaining Copyright Permission
In some cases, students include in their thesis/practicum a substantial amount of text from another copyrighted source, or images such as photographs, tables, diagrams or maps from other copyrighted sources. Written permission from the copyright holder(s) may be required. A sample copyright permission letter is available from the Copyright Office website at umanitoba.ca/copyright/. Some copyright holders prefer to use their own permission forms or licences. All of these are acceptable ways to obtain permission.
Visit the Copyright Office website at umanitoba.ca/copyright/ for copyright guidance on when permission is required or send your question to firstname.lastname@example.org.
It is our experience at the Faculty of Graduate Studies that students and Advisors may not be aware of requirements in the Copyright Act with respect to obtaining copyright permission.
