Pre-Master's | M.Sc. | Ph.D.


Application Fee: $100 CDN (non-refundable)

All applicants must meet the minimum admission requirements of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

An acceptable English Language Proficiency test score is required, if applicable.


Master of Science

The Master's degree in Statistics may be earned via one of three routes:

  • Thesis - thesis and a minimum of 15 credit hours of approved coursework with at least 9 credit hours at the 7000 level
  • Practicum - practicum plus a minimum of 15 credit hours of approved coursework with at least 9 credit hours at the 7000 level
  • Coursework - a minimum of 24 credit hours of approved coursework with at least 18 credit hours at the 7000 level

Students are also expected to take part in laboratory instruction.

Doctor of Philosophy

Ph.D. candidates are required to:

  • Successfully complete at least twelve credit hours at the 7000 level
  • Pass the Ph.D. qualifying examination (within eighteen months of first registration)
  • Pass a candidacy examination (normally administered twelve months prior to the completion of all degree requirements)

Expected Duration

  • 5 years

  • A candidate must normally complete an M.Sc. degree before entering the Ph.D. program.

Pre-Master's

Students with undergraduate course deficiencies may be admitted to the Pre-Master's program to complete the background requirements.
