Research Interests

My research interests lie in the field of northern contaminants, particularly mercury, persistent organic pollutants (e.g. pesticides), and petroleum hydrocarbons. Examples of research include monitoring contaminants in freshwater fish in the Northwest Territories and examining baseline concentrations of hydrocarbons in Baffin Bay sea stars and sediments. I am also a coordinator for GENICE[A1] : Microbial Genomics for Oil Spill Preparedness in Canada’s Arctic Marine Environment, and a coordinator for ArcticNet[A2] . Working with scientists and Indigenous community members across Canada, much of my work has been geared towards mobilizing Arctic knowledge for managers, politicians and other decision-makers. I value the capacity of science to assist with sustainable planning, especially in the context of climate change and variability. I am a member of the Project Management Institute (Manitoba Chapter).
